منديل handkerchief

Etymology of Arabic words: منديل
(mendil) which means handkerchief comes probably from the greek word μαντηλι (mantili) with the same meaning and which is in use since the second century A.D. In Turkish they use also the word mendil.
According to Wicktionary the greek word is a Hellinistic loan from the Latin       mantilium/mantelium  which is a diminutive of the word mantile/mantele<manus.
