أكروبوليس Acropolis

Etymology of Arabic words: the word أكروبوليس
(akrobolis) which means Acropolis is certainly a loan word from Greek language . The greek word is ακρόπολις (akropolis) , has the same meaning and is composed by the word ακρο (akro) which means edge, extremity and the word πόλις (polis) which means city, town. In Turkish they use the word akropol. In Athens the fortified hill/rock on which is the ancient temple of Parthenon (dedicated to the deity Athena) and Kariatides is called Acropolis.
