Etymology of
Arabic words: the word طاووس
(taous) means
Peacock, the known colourful bird, and it is probable
that it is a loan word from the Greek language. The ancient greek
word ταώς (taos) means the same and sounds similarly as the arab
word. It must be added that it is very probable that the peacock came
in the antiquity from India and hence the greek word is a loan word
from a language of India.
