Etymology of Arabic words: the word طاووس
(taous) means Peacock, the known colourful bird, and it is probable that it is a loan word from the Greek language. The ancient greek word ταώς (taos) means the same and sounds similarly as the arab word. It must be added that it is very probable that the peacock came in the antiquity from India and hence the greek word is a loan word from a language of India. 

 

الأوليغارشية Oligarchy

Etymology of Arabic words: the word الأوليغارشية
(oligharsia?) means Oligarchy and it is a loan word from Greek language. The greek word is ολιγαρχία (oligharhia) and it is composed by the word ολίγοι (olighi) meaning “few”,” a few” and the verb άρχω (arho) which means “to govern, to rule”. In Turkish they use the word oligarşi.


الأكاديمية Academy

Etymology of Arabic words: the word الأكاديمية
(akadimiya) means Academy and is pronounced exactly the same as the greek word ακαδημία (akadimia) from where it derives. In ancient Athens there was the famous Academy of the philosopher Plato. In Turkish they use the word akademi.
