جغرافية geography

Etymology of arabic words: the word  جغرافية (tjougrafia) means geography and derives from the greek word "γεωγραφία "(gheografia) which word was first coined by the Greek Astronomer Eratosthenes who calculated the diameter of the earth the third century BC.
 
 

كمون cumin

Etymology of arabic words = the word  كمون (koumin) which means cumin comes probablly from the greek word κύμινο (kimino) which word goes back to Mycenian era (2000 BC) written with the Linear script B. 
 
 
 

دفتر notebook

Etymology of Arabic words = the word دفتر (daftar) which means notebook 
( Wikipedia: διφθέρα= book having pages of goat parchment, used along with papyrus as paper in Ancient Greece borrowed into Persian دفتر: daftar meaning book,registry, and in modern time office or bureau.,)
 has as origin the ancient Greek word διφθέρα (difthera)  and/or the later version διφθέριον(diftherion). Similar word is used in turkish (defter) .

Etymology of arabic words: the word ببليوغرافيا
(bibliografia) means bibliography and is a loan word from the Greek language. The Greek word is βιβλιογραφία (vivliografia) and is composed by the words βιβλίο (vivlio) which means book and the -γραφία ( grafia) which derives from the verb γραφω (grafo=to write). In Turkish they use the word bibliyografya.

Etymology of arabic words: the word أرشيف
(arsif) means Archive/s and has its roots in the Greek language. The Greek word is αρχείο/α (arhio/a) and has the same meaning. It derives from the antiquity and its original meaning was the dwelling of the Αρχων (Arhon=Ruler/Magistrate) in which important official state documents were filed. In Turkish they use the word arşiv/ler.

(dimografian) which means Demography has its roots in the Greek language. (Demography is the statistical study of human populations). The word coined in french in 19th century, on the basis of the ancient greek word δήμος (dimos) which had the meaning, the people of a city and the graphy word-forming element meaning "process of writing or recording" or "a writing, recording, or description “ which derives from the Greek verb γράφω (grafo) which means to write. In Turkish they use the word Demografi.

(berud) means Gunpowder and seems to be a loan word from the Greek language. The Greek word πυρίτιδα/πυρίτις (piritida/piritis) means nowadays the same but initially had the meaning of a mineral which strikes fire and this is evident as the ancient expression was “πυρίτιος λίθος” (piritios lithos) and meant “ stone which gives fire”. In Turkish they use the word barut.

Etymology of arabic words: the word سيكولوجية
(sikolozia) means Psychology and has its roots in the Greek language. The Latin word psychologia was first used by the Croatian humanist and Latinist Marko Marulić in his book, Psichiologia de ratione animae humanae in the late 15th century or early 16th century. The greek word is ψυχολογία (psihologhia) and is composed by the word ψυχή (psihi) which means soul, psyche and the word/suffix -λογος -logos, translated as "study of" or "research”. In Turkish they use the word psikoloji.




هليكوبتر helicopter

Etymology of arabic words: the word هليكوبتر
(helicobter) means helicopter and has its roots in the Greek language. According to Wikipedia .... “The word helicopter is adapted from the French hélicoptère, coined by Gustave de Ponton d'Amecourt in... 1861, which originates from the Greek words eliks- (ἕλιξ) = helix, twisted, curved" and pteron (πτερόν) = "wing". In Greek of course is ελικόπτερο (elikoptero) and in Turkish helikopter.
