Etymology of Arabic words:  القانون

 (kanun) which means Law, Rules, is a loan word from the Greek language. In Turkish they use kanun with the same meaning. The Greek word is in use since the Homeric period (eight century B.C.) with meaning initially the ''metric ruler'' and later the Rules.
