الفندق hotel

Etymology of arabic words =the word الفندق
=(alfondouk) which means the hotel seems to be of Greek origin. The ancient greek word is πανδοχείον (pandochion) , had the meaning of the roadside inn and is composed by the words πάν (pan) which means all,everything and the word δοχείον which derives from the verb δέχομαι (dehome) and which means to accept i.e. the meaning of the greek word πανδοχείον was the place which accepts everything (people and animals). Other known names of the old roadside inn is kervansaray or han , which were/are in use in Turkish.
