إبليس devil

Etymology of Arabic words: the word إبليس
(iblis) which means devil, satan, seems to have Greek origin. The Greek word διάβολος (diavolos) which has the same meaning, derives from the verb επιβουλεύω (epivoulevo) which means impinge, conspire against, plot against, (the noun being επίβουλος=epivoulos) comes from the antiquity and was the basis on which the seventy Jews scholars made the translation of the word satan comprised in the old testament from Hebrew to Greek in third/second century   B.C.

In Turkish there are the words iblis and şeytan.
