فسيفساء Mosaic

Etymology of Arabic words: the word فسيفساء
means Mosaic and according to AED Dictionary derives from the greek language and especially from the ancient word ψηφίς (gen. ψηφίδος) which was small particles of stone, glass etc.The greek word produced from this root is ψηφιδωτόν(psifithoton) i.e. the well known mosaics of the greek classical and the Byzantine era.
