البندق hazelnut

-->
Etymology of Arabic words: the word البندق
means hazelnut and derives from the greek language. Here is an excerpt from the well documented Turkish Dictionary:
“””~ Ar bunduḳ/funduḳ بندق/فندق a.a. ~ OYun pontikón (kárion) ποντικόν (κάριον) "Karadeniz cevizi", fındık < öz Póntos Euksēnios "Konuksever Deniz", Karadeniz < EYun póntos πόντος deniz”””
which explains the origin of the word, being the ancient greek word pontikon(ποντικον) κάρυον which means nut from the region called pontos  (in north-west part of the nowadays  Turkey),  which  means  sea.
