أميثست Amethyst

-->
Etymology of Arabic words: the word أميثست
(amithsout?) means Amethyst (a violet variety of quartz often used in jewelry) and seems to derive from the ancient greek word αμέθυστος (amethistos) which was believed to prevent drunkeness. The greek word is composed fron the privative α- and the word μέθη (methi) meaning drunkeness. In Turkish is ametist.
