متعرجة meander

Etymology of Arabic words: the word متعرجة
(moutariza ?) which means meander , zigzag , winding , is probably from the Greek word μαίανδρος (meantros) with the same meaning. In the Antiquity in Minor Asia (now southwestern Turkey) a river was called Μαίανδρος and its route was with numerous windings and so his name became, and still is, proverbial. From the river's name derived the decorative border constructed from a continuous line, shaped into a repeated motif (see below picture). In Turkish the river is called Büyük Menderes.
