Etymology of Arabic words: the word ناموس
=(namuus) which means law, code seems to be a loan word from the Greek language. The ancient greek word νόμος (nomos) means law is in use till now and derives from the verb νέμω (nemo) which means distribute, allocate and is in use till now in the legal language with other similars meanings. In Turkish there is a word namus but meaning mainly honor ( the honor of a girl) which reminds me the expression “ code of honor”.
