Etymology
of Arabic words: the word فانوس
means
lantern and derives from the greek word φανάρι
(fanari) diminutive of the older word φανός (fanos).
Το
φανάρι του Διογένους (to fanari tou Dioghenous) is
a well known expression for the cynic Philosopher Diogenes, who walked
in the Agora with a latern/lamp, saying “I am looking for a
man”,(άνθρωπο ζητώ).In Turkish fanus.
