Etymology of Arabic words: the word اخطبوط
=(ouhtapout) means octopus and is a loan word from the Greek language. The ancient greek word is οκτάπους (oktapous) and is composed from the word οκτώ (okto) which means eight and the word πους (pous) which means foot. In modern Greek we use the word χταπόδι (htapodi). In Turkish they use the word ahtapot.
