آفيون opium

Etymology of Arabic words: the word آفيون =(afioni) which means opium is of Greek origin. The greek word is όπιον (opion) which is used at least since the Hellenistic period which derives from the ancient greek word οπός (opos) which means milky juice of the plant. In Turkish they use the word afyon.
