The planet Jupiter has been known since ancient times. It is visible
to the naked eye in the night sky and can occasionally be seen in the
daytime when the sun is low.[131] To the Babylonians, this object represented their god Marduk. They used the roughly 12-year orbit of this planet along the ecliptic to define the constellations of their zodiac.[23][132]

THE MYTH
The great Zeus fell madly in love with Callisto, the beautiful huntress nymph inhabitant of the forests of Arcadia. The father of the gods seduced the nymph, and she became pregnant. Upon learning what happened Hera, wife of Zeus, prey of jealousy, turned Calisto into a bear (Great Bear OR URSA MAYOR).
Over time, Arkas, the son of Calisto, also a hunter, one day came across a bear and wanted to kill it, not knowing it was his mother. Zeus intervened and revealed the truth. For that not to happen again, Zeus took Callisto, turned into a bear, from her tail and threw her into the sky, also transformed Arkas into a bear and put him in heaven with her mother to keep her company. Arkas is the constellation of Ursa Minor (the Little Bear).
But Hera, wife of Zeus, was not happy and asked her brother, Poseidon, to not allow the heavenly bears, Calisto and Arkas, to approach to his marine domains. Then, The Great Bear and the Little Bear never disappear beneath the sea.

The Antikythera mechanism (pron.:

is an ancient analog
computer[1][2]
designed to calculate astronomical
positions. It was recovered in 1900–1901 from the Antikythera
wreck,[3]
but its significance and complexity were not understood until a
century later. Jacques
Cousteau visited the wreck in 1978[4]
but, although he found new dating evidence, he did not find any
additional remains of the Antikythera mechanism. The construction has
been dated to the early 1st century BC. Technological artifacts
approaching its complexity and workmanship did not appear again until
the 14th century AD, when mechanical astronomical
clocks began to be built in Western Europe.[5]
The Antikythera mechanism is displayed at
the National
Archaeological Museum of Athens, accompanied by a reconstruction
made and donated to the museum by Derek
de Solla Price
All of the mechanism's instructions are written in Koine
Greek,[7][not
in citation given] and the consensus among scholars is that
the mechanism was made in the Greek-speaking world. One hypothesis is
that the device was constructed at an academy founded by the Stoic
philosopher Posidonius
on the Greek island of Rhodes,
which at the time was known as a center of astronomy and mechanical
engineering; this hypothesis further suggests that the mechanism may
have been designed by the astronomer Hipparchus,
since it contains a lunar mechanism which uses Hipparchus's theory
for the motion of the Moon. However, recent findings of The
Antikythera Mechanism Research Project suggest that the concept
for the mechanism originated in the colonies of Corinth,
which might imply a connection with
Archimedes.

The Greek alphabet emerged in the late 9th century BC or early 8th
century BC[12]
Another, unrelated writing system, Linear
B, had been in use to write the Greek language during the earlier
Mycenean
period, but the two systems are separated from each other by a hiatus

developed in the Islamic
Golden Age, and written in Arabic,
the lingua
franca of Islamic civilization. The emergence of Islamic
medicine came about through the interactions of the indigenous Arab
tradition with foreign influences.[1]
Translation of earlier texts was a fundamental building block in the
formation of Islamic medicine and the tradition that has been passed
down.[1]
Medicine was a central part of
medieval Islamic culture. Responding to circumstances of time and
place, Islamic physicians and scholars developed a large and complex
medical literature exploring, analyzing, and synthesizing the theory
and practice of medicine.[6]
Islamic medicine was initially built on tradition, chiefly the
theoretical and practical knowledge developed in Arabia
and was known at Muhammad's
time, ancient Hellenistic
medicine such as Unani,
ancient
Indian medicine such as Ayurveda,
and the ancient
Iranian Medicine of the Academy
of Gundishapur. The works of ancient
Greek and Roman
physicians Hippocrates,[7]
Galen and

Alexander III of Macedon
(20/21 July 356 – 10/11 June 323 BC), commonly known as
Alexander the Great (Greek:
Ἀλέξανδρος ὁ Μέγας,

from the Greek ἀλέξω alexo
"to defend, help" + ἀνήρ
aner "man"), was a king of Macedon,
a state in northern ancient
Greece. Born in Pella
in 356 BC, Alexander was tutored by Aristotle
until the age of 16. By the age of thirty, he had created one of the
largest
empires of the ancient
world, stretching from the Ionian
Sea to the Himalayas.[1]
He was undefeated in battle and is considered one of history's most
successful commanders.
Alexander was born on the 6th
day of the ancient Greek month of Hekatombaion,
which probably corresponds to 20 July 356 BC, although the exact
date is not known,[4]
in Pella, the
capital of the Ancient
Greek Kingdom
of Macedon.[5]
He was the son of the king of Macedon, Philip
II, and his fourth wife, Olympias,
the daughter of Neoptolemus
I, king of Epirus.[6][7][8]
Although Philip had seven or eight wives, Olympias was his principal
wife for some time, likely a result of giving birth to Alexander.
